Wiz ports a 50,000-line Python PDF library to Go in about 20 hours with Claude Code
Wiz's codebase is Go, but the only reliable PDF parser was pypdf, a 50,000-line Python library it had to run sandboxed. A DSPM engineer started the port on a Saturday; basic parsing worked within an hour, and after roughly ten hours of iterative development the new Go library passed all 500 of his pathological test PDFs. The result is an 18,413-line Go codebase that now fully replaces the Python solution in production. The team also migrated a 20,000-line C++ library to Go in 2 days.
The numbers (as reported)
| Source size | ~50,000 lines of Python (pypdf) |
|---|---|
| Output size | 18,413 lines of Go |
| Time | ~20 hours (10 active development, 10 testing) |
| Estimate without AI | 2–3 months of specialized engineering |
| Test cases passed | 500 of 500 pathological PDFs |
| Production result | 2x+ faster PDF processing |
| Second port | 20,000-line C++ library to Go in 2 days |
