Three people build Loft with coding agents over three months, then ship its open format 53 hours after the first commit
From July to October 2026 a team of three built Loft V1, a spec-first product-contract server, with coding agents. Codex wrote most of the Rust core in July and August; Claude Code wrote nearly all code from mid-September. Deterministic gates (function-length and complexity limits, simulators, fresh reviewing agents) turned away bad agent work, while people ratified the spec, approved merges and deployed. The public open format and loft command line went live 53 hours after its first commit. During a ten-day vacation with nobody steering, the agents produced zero commits.
The numbers (as reported)
| Team | 3 people |
|---|---|
| V1 duration | ~3 months (July 10 – Oct 16) |
| V1 commits | Nearly 2,000 (merges excluded) |
| V2 public release | 53 hours after first commit |
| V2 commits | ~350 in six days |
| Spec size | ~5,000 nodes (~1,000 requirements, 3,500 acceptance criteria) |
| Agent share | 90%+ of V1's October commits co-authored by Claude |

Caveats
Written by the company about its own product, which it sells as a way to run agents. No cost, token or code-size figures. The fast V2 release rested on three months of earlier V1 work.
